LENOIR -- A Caldwell County man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of filing a false bomb report last August at the Caldwell County Courthouse.

Superior Court Judge Robert Ervin sentenced Michael Ellis Presnell, 31, of Lenoir, to between eight and 19 months in prison. He was found guilty of two felonies -- false bomb report in a public building, and obstruction of justice.

Presnell was arrested in September, in connection with an Aug. 16 incident at the courthouse. The sheriff’s office says someone phoned in a bomb threat, and deputies found a suspicious package in the men’s restroom. The package was made to look like an explosive device, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said an investigation led them to charge Presnell in the case.
