Man charged in shooting at Rock Hill store

Rock Hill police arrested a 34-year-old man Thursday in connection with an October shooting at the Arch Mart near Saluda Street.

Sylvester Dewayne Patterson, who has both Charlotte and Rock Hill addresses, is charged with assault and battery and carrying a pistol unlawfully, according to Rock Hill police reports.

Patterson is accused of firing a semi-automatic handgun at a man in the Arch Mart parking lot on Oct. 26, 2012, according to the reports.

The victim told police an unknown man in a dark-colored hoodie with long dread locks asked to borrow a cigarette lighter and pulled the gun on him after returning the lighter, the report states. The victim dodged the bullet and wasn’t hurt.

Rock Hill police picked up Patterson from the Buncombe County Detention Center in North Carolina on Thursday afternoon, according to reports.

It’s unclear what authorities charged Patterson with in N.C.

Rock Hill authorities also served a bench warrant on Patterson on Thursday for assault and battery, third degree.
