My phone is smarter than me

Wednesday, I was working in the greenhouse at work when I heard a weird sound. I finally figured out it was my new phone.

Actually, it is Ellie’s old phone. Ellie and Levi both got smartphones last Saturday for “school work” and I inherited Ellie’s old phone, which is apparently smarter than me.

The phone I was using let me know what time it was and rang occasionally. I debated whether to start using Ellie’s old phone or just buy a cheap watch.

It is not a bad phone. I really like the calculator “app” associated with it. It is much better than the four-function calculator I arrived at college with that took eight AA batteries in 1979. Don’t really care for that finger-sliding,though.

I walked out the back of the greenhouse on the north side, knelt in the shade, put on my reading glasses, and cupped my hand around the screen to try and figure out why the phone had dinged.

I finally figured out it was a missed call and message from Jenifer that said “Call me now” frantically.

I just knew that she was going to tell me that the pigs were out and running amok. Because of all the recent rain, the pigs have churned their pasture to mud.

That was not the case.

One of my brother’s donkeys was in a neighbor’s yard and when I got there, Jenifer had one donkey inside the fence and the other outside; she just needed someone to open the gate.
