Pineville, Hickory get donations today

The Pineville Police and Hickory Fire Department will receive much-needed donations of equipment today from a national restaurant chain.

Firehouse Subs plans to donate $8,700 worth of gear to the Pineville police officers, and $15,100 worth of equipment to Hickory firefighters.

Pineville police will receive 30 armor-plated tactical vests. The donation is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Firehouse Subs restaurant in the 9100 block of Pineville-Matthews Road.

Hickory firefighters will get two thermal-imaging cameras, which can be used to detect body heat and “hot spots” in burning buildings. That will give crews a big boost in finding and rescuing people from fires.

The Hickory donation is being made at 10:30 a.m. at the Firehouse Subs restaurant in the 2400 block of North Center Street (N.C. 127).
