Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Wednesday were searching for a 13-year-old girl who disappeared from her south Charlotte apartment two days ago.

Kiley Hegger was last seen asleep in her bedroom 11 p.m. Monday at the family’s ground-level apartment in a gated community near Providence High School, her mother Lindsay Hegger said.

Her parents realized she was missing when they checked in on her about a half hour later.

They found the window open with a screen knocked out, Hegger said. They don’t believe Kiley ran away, because her purse and wallet – with cash inside – was left behind, Hegger said.

“She has no shoes on, no identification, no money,” Hegger said. “She was looking forward to theater and volleyball tryouts at school.”

Kiley is a sixth-grader at United Faith Christian Academy. She had just turned 13 on Sunday, her mother said.

Kiley is 5-feet tall and weighs 100 pounds. She has blue eyes and red hair.

Police are investigating the girl’s disappearance as a missing persons case but didn’t have many other details. Hegger said St. Francis United Methodist Church held a vigil for her daughter Wednesday night and her school plans to hold another Thursday.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts should call CMPD detective E.G. Boulware at 704-336-8970.
