Charlotte-Mecklenburg police is promoting 28 staff members during a Friday morning ceremony at the Police Training Academy, including one appointment to the rank of Deputy Chief and four to the rank of Captain.
The promotions include two new commanders of CMPD divisions.
Major Eddie Levins was promoted to Deputy Chief and assigned to Field Services Group North.
Promoted from captain to major were Mike Adams, Freda Lester, Allen Rutledge, and Mike Smathers. Adams was assigned to the Training Bureau, Lester to the Special Investigations Bureau, Rutledge to the Southeast Service Area, and Smathers to the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
The promotions also include new captains for the North Tryon Division (Rob Dance) and University City Division (Todd Garrett). Both were promoted from the rank of lieutenant.
