Brittany Sajbel is an associate attorney in Concord. Her March wedding planning has hit quite a few bumps in the road, but she remains positive and sane with the help of her amazing fiance, Neil Love, and their two furbabies, Gemma Bean and Kitty Caroline. Contact Brittany here.

Back in early May when my fiancé decided to take on this challenge, she came to me and said that she wanted us to make a change together. For me, change has always been something that I have struggled with, and I’ll admit that it took me a few months to get on board.

Well before I became a physical education teacher, I was interested in health, fitness, and sports, so exercise and dieting always felt like something that should come easily to me. However, this has not been the case.

It is easy to get comfortable when you find the love of your life. As I watched Brittany begin this process, I knew I had to support her and move away from my own comfort zone. Over the past few months, the thing that has helped me the most is the love and support Brittany has given to me, even though I have not been the best influence on her.

From the first moment I laid eyes on her during a faculty meeting in the cafeteria at West Charlotte High School, I thought she was beautiful. I have never felt like she has needed to change. She says in her bio, "My fiancé has seen me at my tiniest when I was teaching, to my current largest, the result of a combination of comfort, stability and law school. At any size, I know that he is crazy about me and will love me for better or worse, but I refuse to settle for the latter when there is something that I can do about it.” It was not until I read her statement on her blog page a few months ago that I realized that this challenge was not about me or how I see or feel about her. This challenge is about her wanting to be a better partner, future mother, and most importantly, a much healthier person for her and for me.

I am excited about our wedding, which is now only sixteen days away. As it gets closer, we both continue to make changes to our habits which I truly believe will make our marriage stronger. Lifestyle changes can be incredibly hard if you go at it alone. Luckily, I have a partner that motivates me to do better and to be better, and I will do the same for her. For the first time in a long time, I am excited about change. I’d better be: March 23rd is coming quickly!
