Police: Suspect stole wife’s car, shot husband in arm

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are searching for a suspect who stole a woman's car and shot her husband in the arm when he tried to follow the thief.

The 46-year-old husband told police that he had started his wife’s silver 2003 BMW sedan around 5:30 a.m. Thursday and left it running to warm up in front of their east Charlotte home.

The man said he heard a noise after going back inside the residence, located in the 6110 block of Balsam Fir Drive. When he glanced outside, he saw the suspect driving away in his wife’s car.

The husband got into his car and followed the suspect to the 8300 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The suspect then pulled out a gun and began shooting at the man, striking him in the arm, according to a police report.

Medic responded and took the husband to Presbyterian Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

Police later located his wife’s BMW at the intersection of east W.T. Harris Boulevard and Trysting Drive.

No arrests had been made in the case Friday.
