Baseball: Kent St. trips up Charlotte 49ers in extra innings

Grant Dunnegan’s RBI single for Charlotte in the bottom of the ninth forced extra innings, but Kent State’s two-out, two-RBI triple scored two in the tenth to take the series 7-5 Sunday.

Shane Basen led the 49ers (10-4) with two hits and two runs scored.

Brian Clark earned the win for the Golden Flashes (4-10).

ACC

N.C. State 4, Clemson 1: Jake Fincher’s four hits, including a triple, and three runs scored helped the visiting Wolfpack (12-4, 1-2) avoid a sweep.

Grant Sasser earned the win, while Scott Firth took the loss for the Tigers (9-5, 2-1).

North Carolina 6, Wake Forest 2: Syke Bolt hit his third home run of the weekend to help the visiting Tar Heels sweep Wake Forest (9-8, 0-3).

Chris McCue earned the win for North Carolina (14-0, 3-0).

Miami 5, Duke 3: Andrew Suarez struck out four and allowed one earned run to help the visiting Hurricanes (13-4, 1-2) avoid a sweep.

Andy Perez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Blue Devils (8-7, 2-1).

SEC

South Carolina 1, Rider 0: Nolan Belcher and Tyler Webb combined for the second shutout in the past three games for the host Gamecocks (13-2).

Joey Pankake homered for the fourth time in the past five games as South Carolina swept Rider (6-4).

Big South

Tulane 11, High Point 10: Tim Yendal’s RBI single in the 12th inning to win the series for the host Green Wave (9-8).

Sly Edwards went 2-5 for 2 RBIs for the Panthers (7-9).

Gardner-Webb 4, Air Force 3: A four-run fifth inning lifted the host Bulldogs to a series sweep of Air Force (5-10).Benji Jackson was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run scored for Gardner-Webb (11-3-1).

Southern

Appalachian State 10, Furman 9: William Head’s two-out single in the top of the 11th inning scored Alex Leach to lift the visiting Mountaineers.

Clyde Tate earned the win for Appalachian State (8-4, 3-3), which avoided a sweep by Furman (12-4, 4-2).

Western Carolina 5, Davidson 2: Tyler White went 3-for-4 performance with a home run to clinch the series for the visiting Catamounts (9-7, 2-1).

Rob Bain allowed three runs on seven hits and took the loss for Davidson (6-5, 2-4).

Region

East Carolina 4, Monmouth 0: David Lucroy had a career-high 12 strikeouts to help the host Pirates (9-5) earn the series win.

Monmouth is 3-7.

Bethune-Cookman 3, N.C. Central 2: Montana Durapau held the host Eagles (9-7, 3-3 MEAC) to four hits to win the series.

Bethune-Cookman improved to 9-8, 5-1.

Winthrop 5, Penn 2: The Cody Dolan and Jace Whitley had three hits each for the host Eagles (4-11), who avoided a sweep.

Penn falls to 4-5.
