Lowell man sentenced to prison for child pornography

A Lowell man will spend 204 months in federal prison for possession and transportation of child pornography.

Bobby Clarence Byrd Jr., 44, transported 59 videos and 342 images showing the sexual abuse of children as young as two years old, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During an investigation, authorities also discovered that Byrd had sexually abused a child in 2006.

Byrd pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2012 and has been in federal custody since December 2011.

The FBI and the Gastonia Police Department led the investigation.
