Interstate 77 southbound has been the trouble spot for motorists so far this Wednesday morning in the Charlotte region.
A wreck was reported about 8 a.m. around mile marker 17, and police are still working to clear an earlier wreck near mile marker 12. As you might expect, traffic is very slow for southbound motorists.
Congestion also is producing very slow traffic on a number of other interstates.
Here is the 8:15 a.m. update:
I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Poplar Tent Road down to I-485.
I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Providence Road to South Boulevard.
I-485 outer loop, west Mecklenburg ... Collision reported about 7:20 a.m. near Wilkinson Boulevard; wreck is out of the travel lanes, but traffic moving only 35 mph in the area.
I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion near Lake Norman, with traffic moving 20-25 mph from Davidson down to Exit 23 in Huntersville. Collision blocking the left lane between Harris Boulevard and Sunset Road, and collision being cleared near LaSalle Street. Traffic moving 10-20 mph from mile marker 20 down to mile marker 12.
Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 10-20 mph from Village Lake Drive to Idlewild Road.
Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 10-20 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road. In addition, there is a collision reported (8:05 a.m.) at Albemarle and Lawyers roads.
Colony Road at Carmel Road ... Collision reported about 7:55 a.m.; minor delays.
