This first-round Atlantic 10 tournament matchup features the ninth-seed 49ers and No. 8 Spiders. Both teams finished with 8-8 league records, with Richmond beating Charlotte 81-61 in their regular-season meeting. The 49ers didn’t do a good job defensively in that game, especially against Richmond guard Darien Brothers, who scored 39 points on 8-of-11 3-point shooting. And while Richmond is the league’s No. 2 3-point shooting team (38.1 percent) out of its Princeton-style motion offense, the 49ers could take advantage of the Spiders’ rebounding weakness (minus-5.5 per game).
