‘The Classic Cattleyas’

Chadwick & Sons Orchids owner and author Arthur E. Chadwick will give this lecture, 2 to 4 p.m. at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont. Chadwick is co-author of “The Classic Cattleyas” and will speak on the plant’s history and growing tips. Chadwick also will bring orchids from his 13 greenhouses. Gearing up the organic herb garden

Mills Garden Herb Farm is the place for this workshop, 2 to 5 p.m. at 732 Mills Garden Road, Statesville. Learn about planting seeds and get organic gardening tips and a garden tour. Dig for plants to take home. The class is $30 per person or $50 for two. Dress for gardening, and bring gloves, shovels, bags and boxes for taking home plants. The class also includes a handout with recipes, techniques and medicinal properties of herbs. Herbal treats and tea will be served. Top 10 Flowers for 2013

This horticultural Lunch and Learn program will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Gaston County Citizen’s Resource Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, Dallas. Learn about garden trends for 2013. The cost is $10, and lunch will be provided. Register by April 5 at 704-922-2112.
