On April 19 at Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club in Denver, enjoy a day of golf and support families fighting ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease).
The fifth annual Joe Martin ALS Foundation Golf Tournament will include a four-person scramble, a box lunch, a barbecue dinner and silent auction, an awards reception and music by the Rusty Knox Band. The guest speaker will be Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx. If you are not a golfer, join the event at 4 p.m. for the dinner and silent auction. Individual tickets to the barbecue dinner, auction and entertainment are $20 for adults, $5 for children. Cornelius resident Sherri Petrilli, whose husband, Bob, died of ALS in 2009, supports this tournament to “honor Bob. I wake up every day and think about the people still living and struggling with ALS.”“The foundation provides services free of charge to people who have ALS and to their families,” Petrilli said. “It’s time for us to pay it forward so the foundation can keep going and help other people.”Brooklyn South Neighborhood Pizzeria in Cornelius is donating lunches for the event.Friday, Mar. 15, 2013
