Jonathan Jones: Clemson-Florida State Observations

By Jonathan Jones

• Just like the four Duke assistant coaches during the 7 p.m. game, North Carolina assistants Hubert Davis and C.B. McGrath watched the first-round night games. The Tar Heels tandem seemed to be taking more mental notes than actual notes as they sat on the baseline near the Clemson bench.

• For as loud and passionate as the Greensboro Coliseum was for the 2 p.m. game between N.C. State and Virginia Tech, the crowd was equally as quiet for Clemson-Florida State. The game tipped well past 9:30 and the upper level was less than half full.

• K.J. McDaniels might have had the best sequence of plays in the tournament. He blocked a sure dunk by Florida State’s Boris Bojanovsky (who is 7-foot-3), and then he ran the floor and followed Devin Booker’s miss with his right hand for the follow slam.
