N.C. House Rep. Beverly Earle

Raleigh A longtime state House member’s election committee faces fines after officials say it did not file key campaign documents and failed to turn others in on time.

The State Board of Elections wrote Democratic Rep. Beverly Earle’s committee last week saying it owes $12,750 in penalties. The campaign committee also cannot accept donations or spend money until everything is resolved.

Earle is in her 10th House term from Charlotte. She tells The Insider newsletter the delays are not intentional and thought she had filed her October report electronically. Earle says she hopes the fines will be lowered on appeal.

The elections board website showed Friday that her campaign filed two reports at issue Thursday.

The board also says Earle’s committee also filed two other 2012 reports late.
