Pedestrian struck, killed in Kannapolis

A Kannapolis man was killed Friday evening after police say he walked into the path of an oncoming car.

The wreck occurred around 8 p.m. on South Cannon Boulevard near the intersection of Fairview Street.

The victim was identified as 63-year-old Baldomero Feliciano-Bautis, who lived about a block from where the crash site, said Lt. Bryan Ritchie of the Kannapolis Police Department.

Police said they believe Feliciano-Bautis stepped in front of a vehicle that was traveling north on South Cannon Boulevard. Ritchie said the driver had the right-away but said he did not see the victim, who was wearing dark-clothing.

Ritchie said the area near the crash site has street lights, but is not well-lit. He said there is no designated crossing area for pedestrians.

At this point, no charges have been filed in the case though Ritchie it will be up to the District Attorney’s Office to make final decisions on any charges.
