Since its launch in 2008, the Bi-Lo Fuel Perks program has rewarded shoppers with a gas discount of 5 cents off a gallon of gas, up to 20 gallons, for every $50 they spend in the store. Recently the grocer revamped the loyalty program.
In the past, shoppers had to purchase a certain amount of products to earn extra Fuel Perks rewards. Now hundreds of items will be designated “Fuel Perks Bonus Items.” When shoppers purchase these items (which typically are on sale), they can multiply their Fuel Perks rewards. For example, if a shopper purchases five Fuel Perks Bonus items, he or she will earn an additional 25 cents off each gallon, ultimately saving 30 cents per gallon.
Best practices for Fuel Perks
Don’t let them expire. Fuel Perks are good for just 90 days. Staff will remind you when rewards are about to expire.
Keep up with your rewards on the Bi-Lo website. The website also lists participating gas stations.
Buy gift cards and earn Fuel Perk Rewards (this does not apply to Bi-Lo gift cards or prepaid Visa cards). Last fall when we were about to make a large purchase at a large home improvement retailer, we first purchased gift cards from Bi-Lo, earning Fuel Perks.
The rewards apply to 20 gallons of gas. Since most cars hold 15 to 17 gallons, take an extra gas can.
Keep in mind that Bi-Lo rewards shoppers who provide their own reusable grocery bags with a 5-cent credit per bag.
