One person has been arrested and police are searching for another in connection with a shooting outside a northern Charlotte recreation center.

The shooting victim was in surgery late Sunday, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Capt. Rod Farley. Police have not released the name of the victim.

Farley said one suspect had been apprehended around 9 p.m., and was being interviewed by detectives. Investigators hoped that would yield more answers about the shooting.

According to police the shooting happened outside the Sugaw Creek Recreation Center on West Sugar Creek Road around 4 p.m.

The facility has activities for children, teens and adults and features a gymnasium, a stage, multi-purpose rooms and a kitchen, according to its website.

Police encourage anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible for rewards for information that leads to an arrest.
