DALLAS -- Two people and their dog escaped safely when fire damaged their home early Monday in northern Gaston County, authorities say.
The fire was reported about 12:45 a.m. at a house in the 700 block of Dallas-Spencer Mountain Road, near Dallas. A resident of the house smelled smoke and called 911.
Firefighters found smoke coming from the single-story house when they arrived. No injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross was providing help for the displaced residents.
