LINCOLNTON -- A Denver man has been charged with sexually abusing a family member over a period of several years, the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office says.
The suspect also is being investigated by New York authorities, the sheriffs office adds.
Jeffrey Marshall Sempler, 58, was charged Friday with one felony count each of second-degree rape, second-degree sexual offense, and indecent liberties with a child. He also is charged with two felony counts of sexual offense/intercourse by a guardian, authorities say.
Investigators say the alleged victim, who is now an adult, told Lincoln County authorities that the incidents occurred more than eight years ago, during a period when the girl was between the ages of 6 and 14. Lincoln County authorities say results of the investigation are being sent to New York, for incidents that allegedly took place when the suspect and the victim lived there.
Deputies say the investigation is continuing. Sempler is jailed in Lincoln County under $250,000 bond, according to authorities.
