A 4-year-old old boy died Monday after having trouble breathing at a daycare center in Gastonia.
The incident happened at Smart Kids’ Child Development Center on Cox Road shortly before 10 a.m.
Officials said someone called from the location saying someone was having difficulty breathing.
A daycare employee told authorities the little boy was playing with children in a room when the worker noticed him walking strangely. Reportedly, he then fell to the floor.
The child was sent to Gaston Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they don’t expect foul play and have nothing suggesting the death is anything more than a medical issue.
The Gaston County medical examiner is investigating the child’s death.
