CHESTER COUNTY Deputies deployed Tasers on a Chester man they say rear-ended his grandmother and uncle, chased them across two counties and tried to run them off the road before he ran from police Saturday.
By Tuesday morning, Michael Ray Martin, 33, was still held at the Chester County Detention Center, charged with two counts of assault, two counts of malicious damage to property, resisting arrest and failure to stop for blue lights. He is held on a total $60,000 bond.
At about 2 p.m., Martin’s 61-year-old uncle called police to say Martin, who was “high on drugs,” was trying to run him off the road, a Chester County Sheriff’s report states. The uncle said he and his passenger, Martin’s 80-year-old grandmother, drove to York County but Martin chased them, rear-ending their car several times before they turned around to make their way back to Chester County.
Deputies saw Martin hit the car at the county line and tried to perform a traffic stop, but Martin tried to evade police in his gray Buick, the report states. Officers chased Martin down S.C. 321 until he eventually pulled into the driveway of a Christopher Lane home and began to run.
Officers warned Martin to stop and that he was under arrest, but he ignored their commands. They deployed their Taser, stunning him and taking him to the ground. As police tried to put Martin in the patrol car, Krystle Vinson, 30, walked outside and tried to stop deputies from arresting Martin.
After she was told several times to stop, police arrested Vinson, charging her with hindering police. She was released Monday on a $262 bond.
Martin’s uncle told officers that Martin asked him and the grandmother to get money out of the bank so he could settle a debt with a drug dealer, the report states. When they refused, Martin began acting “crazy,” the report states. The uncle and grandmother drove away, but Martin followed in his grandmother’s Buick.
No injuries were reported.
