Ex-Cub Scouts leader accused of embezzlement

A former Cub Scouts leader in Iredell County is accused of using $1,650 from the pack for his personal use.

Ira Haltiwanger, 35, of Troutman, was arrested Monday on charges of embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretense.

Troutman police say they received a report last month from leaders of Cub Scout Pack #174 that money was missing from its bank account.

Haltiwanger had served as treasurer of the pack, but resigned after questions were raised about the organization’s finances, Troutman police said in a news release. The troop told authorities that money was still being withdrawn even after Haltiwanger stepped down.

Haltiwanger was booked into the Iredell County jail under a $1,500 bond after his arrest, but has since been released.
