TAYLORSVILLE Voters in Alexander County have said “no” to four ballot issues that would have permitted the sale of alcoholic beverages.
Final unofficial totals from the board of elections show each of the issues lost by margins of about 53 percent against to 47 percent for.
A group calling itself Citizens for the Future of Alexander County successfully lobbied county commissioners in November to put the issues on the ballot.
Another group, calling itself Alexander Citizens for Faith and Family Values, opposed the issues.
About 5,000 voters cast ballots early, according to the elections board.
