Injury wreck shuts down Albemarle Road

Both directions of Albemarle Road were shut down at 4 p.m. Wednesday as emergency crews responded to a multi-car wreck in the street's 6400 block.

Two people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Medic officials said one of the victims had life-threatening injuries; the other needed treatment for potentially life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. Firefighters had to extract at least one person who was trapped in the incident.

Officials advised drivers to stay off Albemarle Road Wednesday afternoon and expect significant delays in the area.
