Orange you glad you’re here? That’s what I thought to myself at the Charity League of Charlotte’s annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction Luncheon on March 14 at Carmel Country Club.
That’s because I was happy to be around the wonderful ladies of the league and their guests at the sold-out event. And also because orange, one of my favorite hues, was everywhere – from the outfit emcee Natalie Pasquarella of WSOC-TV was wearing to the Kelly Wearstler dress model Diane Richards wore on the runway.
The fundraiser is important because the money raised helps children in need in our area. This year’s theme was “Friends,” so friends of league members were the models. They all wore outfits and jewelry from Our Place boutique and shoes from Marmi at SouthPark mall. Carmen! Carmen! salon did the hair; the makeup was from Laura Mercier.
Pasquarella is one of my favorite fashion show emcees. She’s a serious, award-winning journalist. But she also loves fashion, which is evident from her personal style. It’s so much fun to hear her witty fashion banter, advice and confessions as the beautiful models walk down the runway. She educated the audience on an arm party, which is my new favorite fashion term (that’s when you stack different bracelets together on one wrist). And she encouraged us to try skinny jeans.
“I fought that trend for a year,” she said. “I gave in and now that’s all I wear. They are a blast and are super flattering.”
The other thing I learned is that Our Place carries scarves, jewelry and clothes from interior designer Kelly Wearstler, a native of Myrtle Beach who has branched out into fashion design. Everything I saw from her collection on the runway was edgy and cool, but classic and wearable. Our Place is the only boutique in Charlotte that exclusively carries Wearstler’s collection.
