“The Edge,” an invitational group art exhibition with pieces that use cutting-edge concepts and modern approaches, will be on display March 25-May 16 at The Galleries in the Historic Cabarrus Courthouse at 65 Union St. S., Concord.
The exhibition will include works in paint, pottery, glass, wood and mixed media by 15 artists, according to the Cabarrus Arts Council, which operates The Galleries. Work and artists showcased are: Abstract oil paintings by Graham Auman of Raleigh; totems of hand-blown glass stones by Thor and Jennifer Bueno of Penland; abstract oil paintings by Betty Clark of Asheville; large-scale narrative paintings by Virginia Derryberry of Asheville; mid-century modern-influenced ceramic vessels by Michael Hamlin-Smith of Charlotte; shaped canvas abstract paintings by Kenn Kotara of Asheville; minimalist ballpoint pen drawings by Matthew Micca of Greensboro; science-based free-form paintings by Daniel Nevins of Asheville; sculptural and functional ceramics by Jeff Pender of Charlotte; oil paintings combining symbols and personal mythology by Wanda Steppe of Rock Hill; oversized coil pottery by David Stuempfle of Seagrove; philosophical wood sculptures by Bob Trotman of Casar; huge wood vessels by Anatoly Tsiris of Charlotte; and oil and wax abstract paintings by Anthony Ulinski of Raleigh.Trotman and Pender will talk to visitors about their work and demonstrate some of their techniques between 6:30 and 8 p.m. April 12 at the downtown Concord Art Walk.Admission to all activities at The Galleries is free. Volunteers are available to give tours and answer questions; or patrons may view the exhibition on their own. The Arts Council also will provide an “I Spy” artwork scavenger hunt for children or adults, on request.Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
