A 60-year-old man who was killed by a vehicle Thursday night on West Boulevard ran in front of a pick-up truck, the driver told police.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Johnny Lee Tisdale was killed when he was struck by a 2002 Dodge Dakota, driven by a 65-year-old man. It occurred about 8:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of West Boulevard, about a half-mile west of Donald Ross Road.
Police say the Dodge truck was westbound on West Boulevard, in the left lane. The driver told investigators that a man ran in front of the vehicle, and the driver was unable to stop in time.
Tisdale died at the scene. The truck driver remained at the scene, police say.
No charges have been filed, and police say they continue to investigate the case. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 704-336-8862.
Since 2008, vehicles have struck five pedestrians in the area immediately around West Boulevard and Donald Ross Road, according to Charlotte Department of Transportation data.
In February 2008, a 49-year-old woman was killed on West Boulevard, about a block west of Donald Ross Road. Later that year, a 52-year-old woman suffered serious injuries at the same location, data show.
Both collisions happened at night.
Sidewalks line both sides of West Boulevard at that point.
