Lawrence Calhoun and Richard Tedeschi, professors of psychology, have been named joint winners of this year’s First Citizens Bank Scholars Medal at UNC Charlotte.

The award annually is given to faculty members for scholarship and intellectual inquiry.

Calhoun and Tedeschi were cited by school officials for their work in building UNCC into a center for the study of growth from adversity. The award was presented at a dinner Tuesday on campus. Calhoun and Tedeschi jointly have produced 42 journal articles, 16 book chapters and seven books.

Calhoun has been on the UNCC faculty for 40 years, and Tedeschi has 37 years’ experience at the school.
