Forecast: Expect more rain, snow in mountains

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the mountains from late Sunday night into Tuesday afternoon. Heavy snow and gusty winds can be expected during this time frame.

Today:

Cloudy, rainy and cold with steady temperatures in the low 40s. Normal high temperatures for this time of the year are in the 60s. The rain should be light and steady most of the days but could pick up to moderate and even heavy at times. There will be snow mixing in with the rain in the mountains. The chance for rain is 100%.

Tonight:

Rain showers will come to an end and winds will pick up. Rain will transition to all snow in the mountains. Lows will drop back into the mid-30s. The chance for rain is 40%.

Monday:

Partly cloudy and windy Monday with highs around 50 or low 50s. Snow showers will continue over the mountains communities. Winds in the piedmont from 15 to 35mph and 30 to 50mph in the mountains.

Extended:

Temperatures will stay in the low 50s through the middle of the week. Morning lows will remain well below normal in the upper 20s to low 30s.
