1 hurt in southeast Charlotte house fire

One person suffered apparently minor injuries Monday morning in a house fire near the Charlotte-Matthews line in southeast Mecklenburg County.

The fire was reported about 6 a.m., and it actually was inside the Charlotte city limits, in the 10100 block of Ashley Farm Road. That is off Margaret Wallace Road, between East Independence Boulevard and Sam Newell Road.

Charlotte fire Capt. Rob Brisley said it took a crew of 27 firefighters about 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control. No injuries were reported among the firefighters, but one resident was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment.

Officials at the scene said a family of five lives at the home, and the residents fled when the fire started. Neighbors said the fire started in the garage of the house, possibly with an explosion of some type.
