Deputies: Man killed while trying to steal auto part

SHELBY -- A Rutherford County man was killed shortly before daybreak Easter morning while trying to steal a part off a wrecked car, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office deputies say.

The victim was identified as Daniel Yount, 28.

Deputies say Yount and girlfriend Dawn Bradley, 32, had entered U Pull It Scrap & Metal, in the 1000 block of County Home Road southeast of Shelby, before 5 a.m. The company has a number of wrecked and disabled vehicles, and customers can pay to remove salvageable parts off the vehicles.

Investigators say Yount had jacked up a vehicle and was trying to remove a catalytic converter. They say Yount had crawled under the vehicle, but the jack slipped, and the vehicle fell on Yount. He died at the scene.

Bradley was charged with trespassing and attempted larceny.
