Portion of Elizabeth Avenue closed

A portion of Elizabeth Avenue is closed this week and will reopen this weekend with a narrower format.

The Charlotte Department of Transportation says the closure is between Kings Drive and McDowell Street. It will remain closed until Saturday, the DOT says.

City officials say that once Elizabeth Avenue is reopened, it will be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction. The closure is needed sol crews can relocate electrical duct work and perform storm water work. It is part of the Charlotte Streetcar Starter Project.

The detour involves North McDowell Street, East Seventh Street, and North Kings Drive.

Motorists can expect delays and congestion in the area.
