RALEIGH -- The General Assembly on Wednesday approved Gov. Pat McCrory’s six nominations for the State Board of Education, including two members from the Charlotte region.

The six were Gregory Alcorn of Rowan County, Bill Cobey of Orange County, A.L. “Buddy” Collins of Forsyth County, Olivia Oxendine of Robeson County, Marcella Ramirez Savage of Union County, and Rebecca Taylor of Pitt County.

Alcorn is founder and CEO of Global Contact Services and is former president of Salisbury-based Somar Inc. and Pennsylvania-based Telespectrum Inc. Alcorn will represent District 7.

Savage, an at-large member, is also a member of the Union County Board of Education and was elected vice-chair of the board in December. She is marketing director for Chick-fil-A.
