Pedestrian struck, seriously hurt in South End

Observer staff reports

More Information

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the driver who struck and seriously injured a pedestrian Wednesday night in South End was not speeding and had not been drinking.

Investigators say it appears as if the pedestrian, whose name has not been released by police, walked into the path of the car about 8:15 p.m. on South Boulevard near East Bland Street.

Police say a 37-year-old man was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion southbound on South Boulevard when a pedestrian came across the road from the left (inbound side). The driver was not able to stop in time, police say. The pedestrian was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police blocked off South Boulevard at East Bland Street for several hours as they investigated the crash.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, at 704-336-8862.
