Thursday afternoon traffic update

Traffic problems have developed early this afternoon on roads in the Charlotte region.

Rain and wet streets are adding to the headaches, but the biggest problem appears to be congestion. Slow traffic is reported on northbound I-77, I-85 and the inner loop of the John Belk Freeway.

Here is the 2:15 p.m. update:

I-85 northbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from I-485 up to Poplar Tent Road. A stalled vehicle in the right lane near mile marker 52 is adding to the troubles.

I-77 northbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from the I-485 interchange up to Exit 28.

John Belk Freeway inner loop ... Congestion and a wreck on the ramp to I-77; traffic moving 15-25 mph from mile marker 3 to mile marker 1.
