4 charged with DWI in Eastland checkpoint

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and officers from two other area departments made four DWI arrests overnight at a checkpoint in east Charlotte’s Eastland area.

The checkpoint was conducted from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the 5700 block of Central Avenue, near Reddman Road. Joining CMPD were police from Matthews and Cornelius.

Police Sgt. David Sloan says one vehicle was confiscated as part of a DWI arrest, and there were 73 charges in all.

Here is the breakdown:

DWI -- 4

Driving with license revoked -- 10

No operator’s license -- 36

Open container/alcohol -- 2

No insurance -- 2

Other traffic charges -- 16

Felony drug arrest -- 2

Misdemeanor possession of marijuana -- 1

Vehicle seized for DWI -- 1
