This statement was released on Thursday by the family of Dan Kirchner, who was killed Friday by his neighbor in Harrisburg.
The family of Dan Kirchner wishes to make the following statement regarding his death, no further statement will be made by the family. The family requests that the media please honor their decision to not speak publicly. The Kirchners are private people and wish to grieve privately.
Dan Kirchner was a friend to all in the community of Windsor Forest where he along with Gary Stocks were some of the only people who interacted with the shooter. Many have suspected the shooter was angry about a landscaping project, but we want to make it clear in no uncertain terms that simply is not the case. The three men were in one accord in the matter and the shooter took advantage of the work the HOA was having done to get work done on his property at a greatly reduced rate.
The motivation behind this heinous act will likely never be known and is certainly beyond comprehension. The constant speculation for new and perpetuation of existing rumors serves no value to the families of the victims or the community. What is known is that Gary along with the shooter entered the Kirchners’ yard on Friday afternoon, shortly thereafter with no words exchanged Dan and Gary were shot and killed. The families of both victims are still in a state of shock, but are thankful no other lives were lost.
The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and love from the community of Windsor Forest and the extended Harrisburg area. They would especially like to thank the Harrisburg Fire Department and the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s office that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to assist the family. Without their support the family would no doubt have not been afforded the privacy they desperately need. You are all to be commended for your dedication and kindness.
Dan Kirchner was a great man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends, certainly elaborations could be made but it can’t be stated more clearly.
