No injuries in Kannapolis duplex fire

KANNAPOLIS -- Three residents escaped without injury Thursday evening when fire damaged their duplex unit in Kannapolis, fire officials say.,

The blaze was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. at an apartment in the 200 block of Briarcliff Drive, off South Main Street. Firefighters found flames coming from the second floor of the building when they arrived.

Fire officials say five additional occupants of an adjoining unit also were not injured. Thirty firefighters battled the blaze, and authorities say the American Red Cross provided help for the displaced residents. Investigators are working to determine the cause.
