Huntersville wreck leaves 1 dead, 2 hospitalized

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a 35-year-old woman was killed after her car struck another vehicle head-on near Huntersville.

Two other people, including a five-month-old boy, were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The wreck occurred around 10:45 a.m. Saturday in the 13000 block of N.C. Hwy. 73, which is near the entrance to the McGuire Nuclear Station.

Police said Kristy Renee Miller was driving a Honda Accord on Hwy. 73 toward Lincoln County when she drifted over the double yellow line.

According to police, the driver of a pick-up truck that was traveling in the opposite direction applied her brakes and tried to steer off the road to avoid the collision. But Miller’s car hit the truck head-on.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 5-month-old boy who was in a car seat was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. So was the driver of the pickup truck, who police identified as Anne Jones.

Police said the crash remains under investigation, and authorities don’t suspect alcohol as a factor.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Det. Kevin Allred of CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-336-8862.
