Car hits CMS bus; no students aboard

There were no serious injuries but plenty of traffic problems Monday morning when a car and a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus collided on Interstate 485 in southern Mecklenburg County.

The collision, which apparently happened when a car hit the back of a bus on the inner loop of I-485 near Johnston Road, was reported about 8:15 a.m. It blocked the right lane and caused a traffic backup that stretched past Providence Road.

No students were aboard Bus 344 at the time. A CMS spokeswoman said the bus was headed to start picking up students for Carmel Middle School.
