2 hurt in van wreck on I-40 in Iredell

STATESVILLE -- Two people were injured, one seriously, when a van crashed Thursday morning on Interstate 40 in western Iredell County, the N.C. Highway Patrol says.

The incident was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on eastbound I-40, not far from the Iredell-Catawba county line. Troopers say the van, carrying four people, went over a barrier next to the left lane, crossed the median, and overturned.

One person riding in the rear of the van was thrown from the vehicle and airlifted to a hospital. Another person also was hospitalized. The driver and a front-seat passenger suffered minor injuries.

The crash forced troopers to close all lanes of I-40 for about 45 minutes, and one lane in each direction was closed for another 90 minutes after that.
