AUGUSTA, Ga. Play is underway at the world's greatest golf tournament. This year the field includes many players that have ties to the Carolinas.
Tim Clark: graduated from NC State. Clark has two top 10 finishes in 2013, and was the runner up at last year's Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. This is his 12th appearance at The Masters, having made 5 cuts, including a 2nd place finish to Phil Mickelson in 2006.
Lucas Glover: born in Greenville, SC, Clemson graduate. Glover's game has really struggled since his win at Quail Hollow in 2011. He had a knee injury that sidelined him for most of 2012, and has only one top 10 finish on tour this season. The 2009 US Open Champion is playing in his sixth Masters, but has had little success in Augusta. He's made the cut here twice and finished 20th in 2007.
Bill Haas: born in Charlotte, lives in Greenville, SC, attended Wake Forest. Haas has had an excellent year, including five top 10 finishes. The 2011 Fed Ex Cup Champion has made the cut at The Masters all three times he's entered the field, including a 26th place finish in 2010.
Dustin Johnson: born in Columbia, SC, raised in Myrtle Beach, attended Coastal Carolina. Although Johnson has never fared better than 30th in his three Masters appearances, his strong start to 2013 and ability to attack par 5's makes him one of the favorites this week. He's currently 6th in the Fed Ex Cup standings, and won the first tournament of the season in Hawaii.
Martin Laird: lives in Lake Norman. Laird won last week's Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, holding off Rory McIlroy. He's definitely someone to watch this week, having made both cuts (20th in 2011) in his two Masters appearances.
Carl Petterson: raised in Greensboro, lives in Raleigh, attended NC State. The former Wyndham Champion and Wolfpack great has had a solid start to 2013, having made 9 cuts in the 10 tournaments he's entered. This is his fifth trip to Augusta, where he finished 27th in 2006. Petterson has an excellent short game, but no one has ever one The Masters using an anchored putter.
Webb Simpson: born in Raleigh, lives in Charlotte, attended Wake Forest. The 2012 US Open and 2011 Wyndham Champion says he's starting to play his best golf. He's had two top 10 finishes this season, and finished 44th in his only Masters appearance last year. Simpson is not one of the longest hitters on tour, meaning his short game must be perfect for four days to give him a chance.
Kevin Streelman: Duke graduate. The former Blue Devil is having his best season on tour. Last month's victory in Tampa was the first of his career, and is currently 5th in the Fed Ex Cup standings. However, in his only Masters appearance he missed the cut in 2011.
