A mother is facing an unlawful neglect toward a child charge after police say she accidentally ran over her infant.
Amber Johnson, 23, told Chester, S.C. police she had the hood up working on her 1999 Dodge Durango on Wednesday, when she moved her vehicle near a garden hose on the other side of her home.
While moving the car, with the hood still propped up, officials say Johnson struck her infant daughter, knocking her to the ground under the vehicle.
Johnson continued to drive, according to the police report, until witnesses nearby began yelling at her.
Johnson immediately drove her daughter to Chester Regional Medical Center, where the baby was diagnosed with a broken arm and scrape and burn marks on her abdomen.
The infant was then taken by helicopter to Charlotte's Carolinas Medical Center for further treatment.
Authorities say Johnson regularly takes medication, but stated she had not consumed any of her medication prior to the incident.
Johnson is charged with unlawful neglect toward a child, but was not arrested.
The case is still under investigation.
