Charlotte-Mecklenburg police make arrest in fatal shooting

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have made an arrest in a fatal shooting Friday on Maribel Avenue.

Jacoby Delanio Chambers, 21, of Charlotte was arrested shortly after midnight after police obtained a warrant on a charge of murder. Police said Chambers was taken into custody without incident, and he currently is being held in the Mecklenburg County jail.

Chambers is charged in connection with the death of Davis Wayne Walthall, 42.

Police were called to a home in the 1600 block of Maribel Avenue, off Beatties Ford, around 5 a.m. Friday about a gunshot victim. Detectives believe three suspects entered the home, and the victim was shot after an argument. The three suspects then fled the scene, police said.

Walthall died at the scene.

Police have not released further descriptions of the suspects, though detectives spent Friday canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) to speak with a homicide detective or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Steve Lyttle contributed
