Man airlifted to hospital after boating accident on Mountain Island Lake

A boating accident Saturday on Mountain Island Lake left the driver seriously injured after his boat crashed and landed on the shore in the woods.

Huntersville Fire Department received a call at 3:04 p.m. and responded to the accident in the area of the 11390 block of Arthur Auten Road. Firefighters found a single watercraft, and they prepared the driver to be airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center.

“There’s a lot to the story that I don’t think we know yet,” said HFD spokesman Bill Suthard. He said the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission are investigating the cause of the accident.
