US Airways plane’s front wheels edge off runway during landing at Charlotte airport, 79 passengers safe

By Karen Garloch
Staff Writer

The two front wheels of a US Airways Express plane ran off the runway Sunday evening as Flight 2658 from Myrtle Beach landed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

None of the 79 passengers was injured, and all were transported safely to the terminal by buses, said US Airways spokesman Bill McGlashen.

The flight landed on time, at about 6:15 p.m., and the plane was nearly stopped when the nose gear edged off the runway, McGlashen said. He said the cause of the accident is unknown, and an investigation is under way.
