Elizabeth Avenue closure extended

City transportation officials say the closure of Elizabeth Avenue near uptown has been extended another week.

Originally scheduled to be closed a little more than a week, Elizabeth Lane between Kings Drive and McDowell Street will remain closed now until 7 a.m. next Monday. It initially was planned for reopening April 1, but crews have encountered utility conflicts and weather problems.

When Elizabeth Avenue reopens, it will be reduced to one lane in each direction until further notice. The closures are needed so electrical duct banks can be relocated and for storm water work.

It is part of the Charlotte Streetcar Starter Project.
