Tuesday midday traffic update

An earlier problem on Interstate 85 has been cleared, and traffic is moving well across the Charlotte region as we approach midday on Tuesday.

The exception is on southbound Interstate 77 in north Charlotte.

The N.C. Department of Transportation reports very slow traffic near the Sunset Road interchange. At 11:20 a.m., traffic was moving only about 10 mph on the southbound side near the exit. There is no report of a collision in the area.

Earlier this morning, a tractor-trailer jacknifed on southbound I-85 in Cabarrus County. It took place between Exit 54 (George Liles Parkway) and Exit 52 (Poplar Tent Road), in an area where construction already causes slowdowns. Traffic was brought to a near-standstill for about an hour before the problem was cleared about 9 a.m.
